Question
I recently purchase a sligh wall clock. The clock hammers will not work or when I move the hands it will not click. Is this serious problem. It will keep time fine but will not chime. Thanks

Answer
Hi Todd,
There are many possible causes of chime problems. First, make sure that all keyholes are wound all the way. Next check for a chime/silent lever (usually near the "3") and make sure it is set on "chime". Also look inside the clock (usually the back panel is removable) for a large L-shaped steel lever; if it is pressing on the chime hammers, pivot it out of the way. If none of these things solve the problem, there may be an internal problem with the movement. In that case, you would need the services of a professional clock repairer to solve the problem.
