Question
Hi,
I have a prewar Ansonia (NY) mantle clock.  It is a wind-up that chimes an hour behind the displayed time.  How can I correct this?  Thank you.....Carolyn

Answer
Move the hour hand ahead one hour.  To do this, stop the clock.  Grasp the minute hand with the fingers of one hand and the hour hand by the fingers of the other hand,  In each instance make your grip as close to the center post as you can.  Turn the hour hand one hour forward, (this is possible because the hour hand is held in position by friction), do not let the minute hand move.  As an example, you stop they clock with the minute hand at twelve and the hour hand at 1.  By following the above instructions, the minute hand will still be at 12 but the hour hand will now be at 2.  You have made the correction.  Start the clock and you are done.  Regards WJP
