Question
My friend has a Quartz wall clock that chimes on the hour. The number of chimes is off (for 2 o'clock it may chime 9 times. It now chimes every hour even during late night. How do we correct the chimes and set it to stop chiming at 9 pm

Answer
Hi Barbara,
If the chime is off by the same number of hours all the time (e.g., always chimes 7 hours ahead of the correct time), you can correct the chime by simply moving the HOUR hand ONLY to point to the number that the clock has just chimed. You should NOT move the MINUTE hand when you do this.
Some quartz movements have a night shutoff, while others don't. Also, some of those with night-off settings can be adjusted to shut off at a chosen time, while others are set to shut off at a set time which you cannot change. There are so many variations among quartz movements, that I'm unable to provide specific information; an original instruction manual is really required in these cases.
