Clocks, Watches/clock cleaning

Question
I have an Ansonia clock that will only run for a little while before it stops. It is a wall clock and a 1972 vintage. How can I either clean it or get it to run. It used to run just fine. I don't think it was overwound.

Answer
Your public library should have, or can get you books that describe the basics of clock cleaning and the materials required.  In 1929 the Ansonia clock company was sold, lock, stock and barrel, and shipped to Russia.  Any Ansonia there after is in name only.  I suspect your clock is a Korean kick off, if so it would have already exceeded its life expectancy.  I suggest you have a knowledgeable clock person examine your clock to determine whether or not the clock is worthy of the expense that would be entailed to do any work on it.  If the clock has become dear to the family, it might be appropriate to consider a replacement movement.  I know this is negative, but I do hope it helps you.  Regards WJP
