Question
just recieved a grandmothers clock from my mothers estate and it was always hers and i have no clue on how to restart it or how to find out what kind it is to get more info about can you help

Answer
Hi Dwight,
To set up the clock: Make sure that it is on a solid surface, and level it both front to back and side to side. Next, attach the pendulum. I have a photo of a correct pendulum assembly setup in my previous answers. Next, if this is a 3-weight clock, hang the heaviest weight on the right (looking at the clock), and the lightest weight on the left (sometimes there is a heavy weight and the other two are lighter, but the same weight relative to each other; the heavy weight still goes on the right). Pull or wind the weights up near, but not quite to, the top.
Start the pendulum swinging, and listen to the tick to make sure the pendulum is in beat. My previous answers give detailed information on checking the pendulum beat.
Set the time by turning the minute hand forward, stopping at each chime point to let it finish chiming. (Many modern clocks can be set by turning the minute hand backwards, but don't do this if you feel the hand hit sudden resistance when turning).
To identify the clock, look for brand name and model information on the dial or somewhere on the clock case or door. This will be the CLOCK manufacturer's information. To find out the MOVEMENT manufacturer's information, look on the back plate of the movement for make and model numbers. I don't provide identification information on this site, but you should be able to websearch for information.
