QuestionCan you tell me the correct procedure for setting the time on my antique french clock?
thank you
AnswerAntique French clocks were built extremely well, because of this they require gentle handling. I would really prefer a bit more description of your clock. For example is it a table model etc., is it a big or little clock, does it have 1, 2 or 3 winding holes? Does it have a string pendulum? Are there setting knobs present? Without more information the best I can do is to give you a generic answer. Most likely setting would be accomplished by moving the minute hand. ALWAYS move that hand forwards. If the clock is in a fast position, stop the clock until the actual time or arrears of that is shown, restart the clock. To actually do the setting, move the minute hand forward until the correct time is shown. If the clock begins to strike or chime stop moving the hand until that activity has completed, then proceed with the setting. If you meet resistance with this procedure stop the setting at once, never apply force. The hand should be movable with very little pressure. When resistance is met the clock is most likely come to a cocking position. When you hit a situation like this allow about 5 minutes and start again
