Question
Movement is Hermle 1983, 1161-053H.
!/4 Hr. chimes stop in middle of cycle and will complete cycle if I barely touch the little spinning "fly-wheel".
Is there a way to determine if the problem is before or after the spinning "fly-wheel"?

Answer
make sure the heaviest weight is on the right and next in the middle.

might need a tiny drop of oil on the outside the plates ends of the shaft that you are touching and perhaps the one below it that drives the fly.

last thought is that being 24 years old it is ready for overhaul or replacement (better deal) the intermittent symptom of the chimes is the first sign of serious wear.

adding some weight to the right side will force it to run for a while more.
