Question
I have a a Linden wall clock with Westminster chime.  It about 30 yrs old, made in Japan, model 4MH020.  It has aways worked perfectly until recently when it was dropped during some renovations.  Still keeps time well, but it no longer chimes.  I have tried resetting the chime, and the counttest button works, so the chimer is functional.  However, clock are supposed to chime every quarter hour, and I can't get anything.  Thanks for help

Answer
Hi Jim,

There are no repairable parts in quartz movements; the movement is factory sealed, and/or parts are not available. Since the test button operates the chime, the problem is probably not with the batteries or circuit, but rather a broken part inside the movement.

Because of the age of the clock, an identical replacement movement will not be available. However, there are numerous quartz Westminster movements available from clock supply houses, and you should be able to find one which will fit your clock. Pay special attention to the handshaft length of the replacement movement, so that the hands do not protrude through the dial too far or too little. You may also have to replace the hands with ones that fit the new movement, but a wide selection of styles and sizes is available.
