Subject: overwound grandfathers clock

Question
My husband wound our grandfathers clock it has three weights, only the center one comes down, the other two remain up at the top. What can we do at home before we need to call a repair person?

Answer
The key to this delima is in the on your right as you face the clock.  First of all this must be the heaviest on the three.  Secondly try adding some additional weight.  I suspect the pully is pulled up so tightly that it is locked into position.  The additional weight could cause it to begin falling on its own.  As soon as that happens, remove the excess weight.  It could damage your clock.
