I recently bought an old regulator a wall clock on ebay.  It chimes randomly (up to 30 times at 8 minutes to hour and random chimes on hour).  I could use directions and advice on resetting it.  Thanks

Unfortunately it sounds like your clock needs adjustment as well as setting.  I suggest you take the clock to a qualified clock repair person for these adjustments.  My guess is that one or more of the lift mechanisms are not functioning properly.  If I am correct the adjustment would not be difficult to make.  In my shop we would most likely charge it to good will.  Regards WJP
