Question
hi

we inherited a Westminster mantel chime 1978.

there are three things to wind.  we wound the one on the right and it is keeping time but it is not chiming....

the one in the center was turned also.

unfortunately, i can't win the one on the left

can you give us advise please

Answer
Hi Dianne,

If your clock was made in 1978, the winding shaft on the left (as you look at the clock) powers the hour strike, the center shaft powers the hands/pendulum, the right shaft powers the Westminster chime. (A few antique clocks do not follow this pattern.)

You must wind all three shafts all the way for the clock to run properly. If you cannot wind the left shaft, that is, it won't turn either way, it is already fully wound.

When all three shafts are fully wound, your clock should run, chime and strike the hours. If it does not, there are additional problems in the movement, or adjustments that need to be made.  http://www.clockmasteronline.com
