Question

clock hour hand
Hello,
I bought a new verichron wall clock last year, but when we moved, the metal hour hand became detached from the face.  I can't see how it was attached, and it now dangles pointlessly.  It's battery operated, with no glass cover, kindof a retro style clock with spikes around the clock face.  Any idea how I reattach the hour hand without taking the whole thing apart?

Answer
Hi Tina,

The hour hand is a simple press fit onto its shaft. The best way to reattach it is to remove the minute hand first, so you can press it back on.

From your photo, this looks like a time-only clock, that is, it does not strike the hours. For this type of clock, remove the battery, then turn the minute hand to point to the "12". Now unscrew the nut that holds the minute hand on, and pull the minute hand straight off. Next, remove the hour hand. In your photo, the hour hand looks slightly bent; straighten and flatten the hand, then push it back onto its shaft, pointing to the "12". Then replace the minute hand, pointing to the "12" as it was before you removed it, and replace the hand nut.

If you don't want to remove the minute hand, you can simply set the minute hand to the "12", and press the hour hand back onto its shaft with two fingernails, also pointing to the "12". This should work, but is not as secure as the first method.  http://www.clockmasteronline.com
