Clocks, Watches/becker mantle clock
Expert: William J Perkins - 7/25/2008
QuestionI recently bought a gusav becker mantle clock and the 5 striker hammers (the brass rods holding the hammers) are badly bent. It looks like the movement has to come out of the case so I can attempt to straighten them. I can't figure out how to remove the movement from the case. Do you know the secret? Thanks, Lowell.
AnswerCould you send me a digital picture showing the back of the movement. As you know Becker made zillions of clocks, many of totally different configuration. I would have to have some idea of what the clock is like before I could make any suggestions.
I am having a bit of difficulty understanding why you find it necessary to remove the movement from its case. If it is to straighten the hammer shafts, that should not be necessary. You should be able to apply pliers to them and bend them to correct position. Send your digital picture(s) to <flashpowder@hotmail.com> Regards WJP
