About John Newman
Expertise
Because of the variations of clock values throughout the world, and particularly the lack of data on modern production clocks, I regret that I CANNOT DETERMINE CLOCK VALUES. ALSO, WATCHES ARE NOT MY FIELD. However, I can advise the clock owner on proper maintenance of a clock to keep it running, small corrections and adjustments and how to move a clock without damaging it. I can also advise on obtaining parts for clocks. It helps if you can send any information on the clock movement which is usually found on the back plate of the movement. I have been involved in building, repairing and restoring clocks for about 30 years and was plant engineer in the mid 90's and later operations and engineering consultant at Emperor Clock Company in Fairhope, Alabama. I now have my own clock shop.

Experience
One of my greatest accomplishments was traveling to China to assist a clock factory in building clocks to the standards which we required. With the proper specifications and quality control, some beautiful clock cases were built. The factory people from the wood carvers to the plant manager were very congenial, friendly and I left a lot of wonderful friends when I returned from my trips.

Question
I sent the following question on June 12th,  Mr. Newman asked for photos of the back of the clock with the door open.  I emailed them on the same day.  I have received no response since then and wonder if you ever received the photos.
Thank you

Question
I have a wood bracket clock.  Three key wind.  Westminster Chimes.  Movement is marked DRPa.  It is about 14 1/2 inches tall and about 11 inches at its widest point.  It was my fathers and he was a clockmaker.  He died over 30 years ago and it still keeps perfect time.  I wind it once a week.  Can you tell me anything about it?  Age, make etc.  The case is slightly domed on top with columns down the front on both sides of the glass door.  Thank you.

Answer
Cathy, I bet your clock brings back some nice memories.  I believe the DRP is the German designation for a patent.  As this is probably considered an antique or collector's clock, I might have some information on it.  If you can email me a clear digital picture of the full front of the clock and one of the back with the door open, I might be able to find something on it.  My email address is below.

Answer
Cathy, I had some email quirks around that time and the server restored about 300 emails without all having addresses.  If I skipped over yours, I do apologize.  Since you have sent this question via Allexperts, I do not know your  email address.  If you will contact me by my email , I will check to see if I can find your pictures.  Or if you still have the send email will you resend it and I can look at the pictures.  I will respond.  Sorry for the confusion.

(Due to the number of Allexperts questions and
the workload I have at my clock shop, I regret
that I cannot answer questions at this time
other than Allexperts follow ups.)
