Question
I just purchased a grandfather clock with an Emperor movements. The numbers on the movements are 77   73. My question is, what goes between the pendulum and the movement, if anything?

Answer

Pendulum Leader Assemb
Hi Cheryl,

The pendulum top hook connects to the pendulum leader, the leader to the suspension spring, and the suspension spring to the post on the movement. The leader must also engage correctly with the crutch. An illustration is attached, showing these parts.

Your clock's movement is made by Jauch, a company which is no longer in business. This may make it difficult to obtain the correct leader. Jauch used several different designs of leaders, so I can't tell you which one you need. You will need to examine the pendulum top hook and the crutch to determine what leader will fit these parts and be the correct length.  I'm afraid there's no way I can be more specific about this without having the movement in hand. Your best chance of finding a correct Jauch leader may be to take the movement to a professional clock repairer who has a good stock of old parts.

The suspension spring is a much more standard part. These come in many sizes but, once you get the correct leader, you can determine the correct length suspension spring without much difficulty.  http://www.clockmasteronline.com
