Clocks, Watches/Emperor Model 100 M with a Jauch movement

Question
Mr Meyer: I have lost the lead inserts for my Emperor Model 100 M grandfather clock. The movement was made by Jauch and the numbers on the rear of the movement are: 77-11-76 and 393748. I am assuming that this is a Model 77 movement because in my research I found a statement under this model to the effect that Jauch made these for other clock manufacturers. Do you know of a source for these inserts or could you possibly tell me how much they weigh? I am reasonably good with my hands (retired dentist) and I know how to handle hot metals, so I am sure that I could fabricate the inserts if I knew how much they weigh. I took them out to protect the brass sleeves and they became separated from the other clock parts (3 moves in 4 years).
This clock has sentimental value and the movement is in excellent condition. Thank you for you help.

Answer
Hi Charles,

The Jauch 77 movement has three weights, all of the same size. The weight shells for this movement are "grandmother" size (1-5/8" diameter). This movement should function properly with the 4-1/2 pound weight fillers available from clock supply houses like Timesavers, Merritts Antiques or Empire Clock.

Note that, if the movement's bearings are worn or very dirty, the chime or strike may stall or the pendulum may stop. Increasing the weight size is NOT a remedy for these problems; it will temporarily correct the problem, but will accelerate wear until the clock does not function at all. If the 4-1/2 pound weights are not sufficient, the movement should be overhauled or replaced.  http://www.clockmasteronline.com
