Clocks, Watches/Wentworth Manual Wall clock

Question
I was given a Wentworth manual 31 Day wall clock as a gift.  I have finally
adjusted the clock to the correct time, however, I would like to know if there
is a way to stop the chime feature.  This clock chimes on the hour and half
hour.  The problem is that it chimes in the AM hours as well and we would
like to make it stop.  I have a key for two wind-ups located on the face of the
clock.  I have been winding both of them, but is it possible that one keeps the
clock chiming?
If I did not explain the issue or the clock, well please let me know.
Thanks! I really appreciate your advice.

Answer
Hi J.,

31 Day clocks are virtually without exception count-wheel strike mechanisms, and as such do not have a Strike Silent feature.

The left winding shaft winds the strike mechanism, and the right shaft winds the time mechanism. I do not recommend leaving the strike side unwound in an attempt to silence the strike. If the unwound strike mechanism happens to be stopped in mid-strike, it can jam the time mechanism and the clock may stop running altogether.

It is possible to have a professional clock repairer make a reversible modification to the movement so that it does not strike. But in this case, your clock will not strike at all.  http://www.clockmasteronline.com
