Clocks, Watches/Franz Hermle night-silent
Expert: Martin Meyer - 9/13/2008
QuestionQUESTION: I am looking for instruction/manual to adjust the clock to go into night silence.
Clock info Franz Hermle K 461-023H or 461-025H (was hard to read.
Thanks,
erik
ANSWER: Hi Erik,
I consulted with Butterworth Clocks, the top authority on Hermle movements, to be certain that my information here is correct.
There is no 461-023 or 461-025 movement made by Hermle, unless it would be an extremely unusual special production for a particular manufacturer, which is very unlikely.
My best guess is that your movement is a 461-053. This movement does not have a Night-Silent feature. If you have any further information that would clarify this issue, please contact me with a followup question.

QUESTION: Thanks for you reaction, strange it shouldn't have this option, it has been doing this for months, after stopping the clock fot two weeks (holiday) I cannot get it to work again. It has two small handles to work with one for sound on and off and the other I don't know

AnswerHi Erik,
Since I am not positive what movement you have, I'll answer your question in a general way. There is usually a lever next to the numeral "3", which controls the Chime/Silent setting. If there is a lever by the numeral "9", it may be a Night Off feature. It is also possible that there is a brass rod or heavy wire which hangs down behind the dial on the right side of the clock. When this lever is pulled down, the movement will chime all the time; when it is pushed up, the Night Off will take effect.
The Night Off most often stops the clock from chiming after it strikes 10:00, then resumes chiming at 7:15. The most common problem regarding the Night Off is that the clock has been set wrong, i.e., 12 hours off from where it should be set. Because there is no a.m./p.m. indicator, this is easy to do. When this has happened, the owner often notices the chiming at night, but does not notice that the clock is not chiming between 10:00 A.M. and 7:15 P.M.
