Clocks, Watches/broken chain wheel
Expert: Kenneth Saunders - 9/23/2008
QuestionQUESTION: I have a broken chain wheel (an emperor wall clock) - is this an expensive repair? Is it something I could replace myself? Is it possible to even find parts for emperor clocks?
Thanks,
Barbara
ANSWER: depends on how handy you are - not requiring great skill - some direction though. Emperor bought German mechanisms and we need to know which one you have in your clock --the back brass plate of the mechanism itself will have stamped id info we need to proceed. And which wheel - l,r or center?

Answerwill put part in mail
You need to remove the hands (round nut holds the minute hand on and the hour just pulls off)
remove weights
remove movement from case
remove the brass nut from the right rear bottom outside back of the brass plate
loosen 3 turns the brass nut on the front plate located 1/3 of the the way up from the bottom edge and 1/3 of the way in from the left front edge of the front plate.
with fingers spread the two brass plates apart just enough to sneak out the old chain wheel and pop in the replacement.
oil the ends of the shaft of the replacement where they go through the brass plates
put chain over the wheel
reverse proceedures --and reinstall movement in case
