Clocks, Watches/magnetized watch

Question
Hi Melvin,
I saw your suggestion for a watch (older mechanical) which was gaining time (mine just started 10 min per hour), and I tried the magnet procedure...2x ...and now it does not work at all. Have I killed it? It is an old Cartier. I am very worried about it.

Thank you. ..

Melinda.

Answer
Ms. Melinda,

Don't be worried. You have not killed it.

The magnet used was too strong and you have just made it more magnetized. Take it to a local watchmaker and have him use a
de-magnetizer and it will work perfectly fine again (assuming that magnetism was the only problem to begin with).  You have not done any damage.

Kind regards,

Melvin
