Question
I HAVE A 1936 ENFIELD MOVEMENT THAT STRIKES ABOUT 7 MINUTES BEFORE THE QUARTER, HALF HOUR AND ON THE HOUR. WHAT DO I DO TO RETIME THIS?

Answer
You need to reposition the minute hand.  Wait for the clock to start striking, stop the time keeping train and keep it stopped untill this operation is completed.  Take the hand nut off, then remkove the minute hand.  Turn the hand over and you will see that the square hole that position the hand on its shaft is a pressed on bushing.  You can turn this bushing by using a pair of pliers.  Now for an example.  Say that the clock had struck 12:00 but the clock said ll:53.  Using your piers turn the bushing so that when you replace the hand on its shaft it rests at 12:00.  When you acieve that result, replace he hand nut to secure the hand to its shaft resting at 12:00.  Now all you need do is to restart the clock and set the correct time in the usual manner.  You are done.  Regards WJP
