Clocks, Watches/Grandfather Clock

Question
We recently inherited a Grandfather clock. On the face of the movement,
below the attachment of the hands it reads"John jackson" and below that it
says Hackney. Any idea of the history of john Jackson? I can find his name
mentioned when I Google it. I believe the clock is quite old. It works perfectly.
Has 8 chimes on the 1/4 hour, 16 on the 1/2 hour,24 on the 3/4 hour, and
32 on the hour. Thank you. Bradley

Answer
Not seeing your clock I suspect it is of English origin.  If so there was a John Jackson working out of Barrow-on-Humber, (Lincolnshire, England) from 1835-1876.  I suggest you seek out a book on clock makers of Linconshire for more information.  Regards WJP
