Question
Kenneth,I have this movement in a Ridgeway regulator wall clock. The spring for the hour-chime is either broken or unattached. I have removed the barrel (the center spins freely) but I don't know how to open it. Second problem is the leaf spring that holds the ratchet against the gear is broken. How do I get the barrel open and where could I get these parts? Thank You for your time and attention.

Answer
if there is a notch in the cover then pry it off with a lever of some kind in the hole.
If no notch in the cover - whack the shaft opposite the cover with a wood 2X4 while holding the spring barrel in your other hand to pop the cover off.
