Answer
Hi Tonia,

There are many possible causes of chiming problems, so I can only give you some general suggestions.

First, make sure that the heaviest weight is on the right (as you look at the clock).

Check that the chime/silent lever is not set to "Silent". This lever is usually in the dial near the "3". Also, access the movement by removing the side panels or back panel and look for one or two L-shaped metal levers which may be holding the chime hammers down. If they are, rotate them out of the way so the chime hammers are free to lift.

Check that the weight cables or chains are not tangled, crossed over or jammed. If they are, unjamming them can be difficult. You may want to consider having a professional clock repairer correct this problem.

Look at the row of chime hammers on the right side of the movement. If one or more of the hammers is lifted, as if preparing to fall and hit the chime rods, lift the whole row of hammers back. If the hammers were jamming the pinwheel, you should see the pinwheel snap back into position, and the chimes may then start up.

Finally, press down on the right-hand weight so as to increase the force it exerts on the chime mechanism, then turn the minute hand to the next chime point while still pressing on the weight. If the clock chimes only when you are exerting this extra force, then the clock either needs lubrication or the movement's bearings are worn and the movement needs replacement or an overhaul.

If none of these suggestions help, the problem is probably inside the movement, and you will need the services of a professional clock repairer to correct it.  http://www.clockmasteronline.com
