Clocks, Watches/Gilbert Coca Cola advertising clock
Expert: Michael Radi - 10/8/2009
QuestionI have a Gilbert regulator clock that has a very faded dial with "Drink" and "Coca Cola" on it. The bottom tablet (glass) has a crudely painted gold square outline, but no painted "coca Cola" or "in Bottles" inside the square outline. The top and bottom tablet give no indication of being removed or replaced. all molding is present. The label on the back of the clock identifies it as a No. 3022 clock. The clock case is the same as the late '20's to 1941 No. 3022 clock. Is this a "coke" clock? and why is the bottom tablet not painted with "coca cola" or "in bottles"?? Also I have seen (a photo of )a 1941 postcard giving notification that the nos.3022 (coke clock) and 3092(?) 8-day store clocks have been discontinued, effective April 1941. do you know the difference between the clocks?
Thank you.

AnswerMostly my expertise is in clock repair rather than various models. The Gilbert model 3022 is a store regulator. Many store regulators from different factories were also made as advertising clocks. They were fitted with Coke or Baking Soda logos or ads for many other products. You should try to find someone with the Tran Du Ly book on Gilbert clocks. I'm sorry I don't know more about the subject.
