Question
Mr. Meyer,
I have a Harris and Mallow regulator replica.  It has the following information on the front, verichron quartz chime made in USA.  On the back it has,  Harris & Mallow products a devision of Thomas Industries Inc. Model 1961 821 82.  The works are D-cell powered with chime and pendulm built in.  On the works themselves is tochigi toget co. ltd.japan.(not positive on co.name spelling,as print is very tiny.)

I have $0.00 invested in this clock and what I am looking for is replacement works and a crystal.  Do you think this is at all possable or should I just junk it knowing it sold for $103.99 byJ.C.Pennys in the early 60's

Answer
Hi Vince,

I can't comment on whether the repairs would be worth it, because that is an individual decision.

Replacing quartz movements is usually not difficult, although there can always be surprises. You can purchase a pendulum/Westminster Chime movement for under $50. The Hermle 2214 is a very good movement. Your original hands will usually fit, but if you need to replace them, there is a wide selection available and they are very inexpensive. Clock glasses are available in both flat and convex types. The prices vary by size, but can range from $5 to $20 or more. Installing them is usually not difficult, but can be in tough occasional cases.  http://www.clockmasteronline.com
