Question
what is meant by cuckoo clock "pendulum drop" when expressed in inches, relating to ratchet wheel?
Answer
Drop refers to the action when an escape wheel tooth, released by one pallet, falls or "drops" on the other pallet. The depth of the drop determines the arc in which the pendulum swings. Increase the depth, increase the width of the arc. Decrease the depth, decrease the pendulum arc. This has nothing to do with the speed of the clock, that is regulated by the pendulum length.
