QuestionQUESTION: Melvin, I have recently bought a Hamilton automatic 689a movement watch its not working I have no idea what year they came on to the market. I have contacted a watch repair and the QUOTE was These have become extremely problematic because the auto-winding mechanisms are very prone to heavy wear because the bearings were not jeweled. I have run out of spare parts for these movements so I'm unable to repair them anymore. The question is have I bought a lemon?. can I get it repaired? would there be parts at all available? James
ANSWER: James,
There are almost always parts available, as long as you want to look long and hard enough.
Tell me EXACTLY what you need and I will ask around for you in America. No promises that we will find it but we can try.
Kind regards,
Melvin

QUESTION: hello Marvin really Im no expert on watches and have no idea on what parts I need maybe ill send it to an amirican watch repairer any recomendations
James
AnswerJames,
I would not do that as the first step.
I have to believe that there are just as many good Australian watchmakers as American ones.
It would probably be cost prohibitive to send it to America and get it fixed. If you still want to send it here, I will make a call to some friends to see who might have parts.
Just let me know.
Kind regards,
Melvin
