Question
I'm trying to open up a GE 3H80, the "Morgan", to replace the cord.  I can't  remove the knurled hand set knob that will allow me to pull out the works. I don't know if it pulls off or unscrews and I don't want to force the 70 year old.  I've tried penetrating oil to loosen it, but no luck so far. Thank you.

Answer
Hi CJ,

The setting knob is usually a left-hand thread. Try turning it clockwise to unscrew it. Note that it will probably be very tight if you have been turning it hard in the other direction.

If it is, by chance, a pressed-on knob, there are hand removers available from clock supply houses which may be of assistance. This is, however, unusual.  http://www.clockmasteronline.com
