QuestionQUESTION: I got this beautiful walnut clock today, the pulleys were wound too tight on the chimes weights, and won't come down enough to hang the weight properly. Is there any way to loosen the wires do I can hang the weights. The clock is dated 1980, and so far keeps good time and as a piece of furniture, is in fine shape. I can take pictures of anything you might need to see.
Thanks so much!
ANSWER: If you mean the right weight you should be able to pull downward on the pulley enough to start the chime. Do this while turning the hands to each of the quarters and at the same time pulling down. After several chimes it should be low enough to put the pulley in place. I hope the cable is not tangled up on the winding barrel . If it is there will be more instructions and in fact check this b4 you start pulling on the cable and let me know.
Good luck and congratulations on your clock.

QUESTION: Thanks very much Harold,
I got the pulleys to go down and the chimes work, but seem somewhat out of tune (some of them), and the hours don't strike at all. I think I'd like to have the clock oiled & checked out. Two wing nuts hold the movement (312-B03) in place, and I assume I'd remove the hands and face and ship it to a repair person? I have the oiling chart, but that seems to also involve removing the movement from the case. Would you be interested in fixing it?
AnswerHello Bob,
I would be glad to but I am in Mebane,NC and shipping would be pricey. You would need to find a local clocksmith and have a housecall. You might just need a few tweaks or a full overhaul.
Wish I could do more for you but you really need a local since it sounds like bushing wear and or grime in on the pivots
Thanks for your confidence.
