Question
I recently was given an abel cottey grandfather clock (1970)  mfgr the new england clock co. the owner's manual indicates style #102, #104, #106, or #108. this clock requires 3 weights so that rules out #108. The weights unfortunately are not with it. What size should the weights be? are all 3 the same? are they available anywhere? The clock appears as though it may work with the weights Any info would be greatly appreciated. also approx value of working clock would give me an idea of how much is too much to put into repairs  thankyou  Jack McDermott

Answer
The Abel Cottey I am familiar with was active during the 18th century, beginning in Devonshire, England and latter in Philadelphia, USA.  My guy doesn't match to your guy, so my information would be useless to you.  Weights and weight shells are available through any clock materials store.  Unfortunately most sell only to the trade.  Here is a short list of those I do know sell to the public and have on-line catalogs.  Ronell Clocks (ronellclock.com#  Merritt's Antiques #merritts.com#  TimeSavers  #timesavers.com)  As to what weights are required I would need either to see the clock or have more information about the movement.  Sorry I am unable to help you, regards, WJP
