Clocks, Watches/How to adjust the "timing" of the chime?q

Question
Hi Harold,

This is a follow up letter regarding my Japanese wall clock.

By now I have managed to get my clock to work non-stop for a little over a week. I have re-wounded it and it is running great and keeps the time pretty accurately.

The problem is with the chime. It strikes the correct number of strikes to match the hour but it does so 15 minutes past the hour! It also strikes the single chime of the "half hour" but at 45 minutes past the hour!

In other words instead of chiming on the hour and the half hour, it chimes at 15 minutes and 45 minutes past the hour.

I am asking your advise on how to solve this problem.

Your help is always appreciated.

Thanks,
Miki.

Answer
Hello Miki,

Sorry to be so slow but had some computer problems.

Two ways to try,

If you can take the min. hand and go counterclockwise about 30 mins. and then go clockwise past the 12 or the 6 and see if it strikes correctly.

or

remove the hand nut and put the hand pointing the opposite way that it was then return the nut.

Dont lose that nut!!!

Good luck and the second tip would be the tip of choice.
Harold

In rereading your question I noticed it is a asian clock and the first answer would work and not the second part.  also you might have to go backwards two or more times for it to get back to the strike at the top and bottom of the hour correctly.  You will feel resistance when moving the hand backwards.  Asian clocks are very different and much harder to explain.  Sorry for the hassle.

please let me know how it works or if I can be of help.
