Question
how and what do i use to clean the clock works of my windup clock? it seems to be gummy with old oil. this clock was inherited by my wife from her grandmother, it is a korean made LAVA OR LAUA. thanks

Answer
Hello Don,
There is no safe way to clean a Asian clock without tearing it down and releasing power on the mainsprings.  I caint warn you enough not to take the plates apart, only a qualified clocksmith should do this.  Removing the surface crud will only make it look better but the real problem in in the bushings and pivots.  If it is running let it run or save it for special occasions  Those 31 day springs will hurt your clock and yourself.
Dunking it will only add to your problems.
There may be someone in this forum that might tell you some things to do but I can not in good faith do that.

I would only recommend a clocksmith.

Sorry I was of little help.
