Question

clock
This is an old emperor grandmother clock. Numbers on left back are 771173 and on the right are 231609. Is there a replacement movement that would fit in this? Maybe a triple chime? The opening of the mount that is holding it is 8 7/8 x15. And is 5" deep. The hole in the back of clock case is 17 1/8 x 18 " tall. The clock face is tempus fugit. 9 7/8x 9 7/8.
Is there a replacement that would fit in the wood mount or one with a new wood mount that would fit in the clock?
If so how much would it cost?
The pendulum is 30 1/2 inches from tip to tip the opening for it is 12 1/8wide.
Thanks for your help.  am sending  2 photos from my email.

Answer

Jauch 77
Tony, the photos would not come through.  I will attach aphoto of a Jauch "77" in the Emperor 120 frame which is out of the clock case to confirm that it is the same as you have.  The Jauch "77" movement for which I have the conversion kit has plates that approximately 5" X 5-1/8".  If it is and you would like the details of the conversion, reply to my shop email address below and I'll send them to you.

Expertise

As much as I would like to offer values of clocks, I am not a certified appraiser and will not venture into giving an unresearched guess. There is very little published information on what I consider to be the value of "modern production clocks". Considerations are what the clock originally sold for, the condition of the case and movement, and particularly the area in which you live, the demand and the economy. ALSO, WATCHES ARE NOT MY FIELD. However, I can advise the clock owner on proper maintenance of a clock to keep it running, small corrections and adjustments and how to move a clock without damaging it. I can also advise on obtaining parts for clocks. It helps if you can send any information on the clock movement which is usually found on the back plate of the movement. I have been a clockmaker for about 35 years and was plant engineer in the mid 90's and later operations and engineering consultant at Emperor Clock Company in Fairhope, Alabama. I now have my own clock shop.

Experience

One of my greatest accomplishments was traveling to China to assist a clock factory in building clocks to the standards which we required. With the proper specifications and quality control, some beautiful clock cases were built. The factory people from the wood carvers to the plant manager were very congenial, friendly and I left a lot of wonderful friends when I returned from my trips.
