Question
Purchased Herman Miller grandfather clock in 1992. It has a moon dial above the clock face. Can't remember how to set it
  Thanks in advance

Answer
Hi Forrest,

You simply turn the moon dial in a clockwise direction. Most instruction manuals will tell you to just push it with your finger, but, if the clock has easily removable small side panels or small side doors on the sides up at the level of the dial, I recommend reaching into the case and turning the moon dial by its large saw-tooth shaped teeth. This prevents scratching or damaging the front of the moon dial.

The easiest way to set the dial to the correct position is to look up the last full moon or new moon. Then set the dial so that the moon is not showing at all for a new moon, or is centered and fully showing for a full moon. Now, count the days from that last full or new moon, and move the dial forward one click per day up to the current date.

As a side note, many antique clocks and a small number of high-grade modern clocks will require two clicks per day to make the adjustment, but you will probably not run into this on a Howard Miller clock.  http://www.clockmasteronline.com
