Question
I received a Oyster Perpetual Rolex for an award.  About one year after receiving the watch it stopped running.  I was told that it needed an oil change!?  Not sure what that is about.  It was a dealer in Las Vegas that said it needed done.  Does this sound accurate?  Thank you for your response.

Answer
Kenneth,

An oil change? really?

For starters, I watch never needs an oil change, per se.  It does need to be disassembled, cleaned, reassembled, oiled, and timed but that is NOT after only one year.  Maybe after 3-5 years.  I know people that have yet to service their Rolexes after 15 years.

If this is a brand new watch (when you received it), then that is not likely the issue.  If it is still within the warranty period, I would send it back to Rolex.

If it is not under warranty, you will have to pay for the complete service.  Depending on the model, this could run from $300-$600.  It depends on the model and where you bring it for servicing.

Kind regards,

Melvin
