Clocks, Watches/Quartz movement for a Linden mantel clock

Question
Hi, Martin.  There are two numbers in the battery slot (quartz movement which includes a pendulum): 19608 and 5081T.  Any idea where I could locate a replacement?  The wife will appreciate it.

Answer
Hi John,

The numbers are not battery numbers of any format I have seen, and are usually manufacturer's numbers and with meaning only to them. Not being able to see the clock, I can only guess on battery sizes. Virtually all newer quartz clocks take AA or C cells, occasionally AAA, which you can tell by the battery compartment size. Very small desk clocks may take a watch battery, but since your clock has a pendulum, this will not apply. In rare instances, most often for clocks not made for sale in the U.S., the clock may take a more unusual size, such as an N cell or 1/2-N. Quartz clocks that are quite old, maybe 20 years or more, may take D cells. All these batteries are available at any hardware or drug store. You should use only alkaline batterie, never rechargeable or old-fashioned carbon-zinc batteries.  http://www.clockmasteronline.com
