Question
Hello,
today I got a used Schatz Royal Mariner ships clock. I winded it up but the clock doesn't run. How can I get the movement going and how can I open the clock.
Any help is much apreciated.
Thanks and Merry Xmas
regards
Michael

Answer
There are so may things that could make the clock not run that I can't list them here. It could be anything from a simple oiling to a total rebuilding.
I have not worked on one of these in the last few years but to my recollection this is how you get to the movement:
Remove the hands. The minute hand will be held on by a small nut or a tapered pin pushed through the shaft at the tip, the hour hand should pull off.
There are three bolts on the back of the clock. I think they are square shaped. You would remove these bolts. (there may be a similar looking bolt to turn the strike off and on, do not try to unscrew this).
There are screws around the edge of the dial. I think you have to remove the bezel by taking out its screws. Then there should be screws holding the dial on near the edge.
After removing the dial, there may be some more screws holding the movement to the case. If so, remove these and the movement will come out the front of the case.
If you need more help let me know.
A photo would help me identify the screws you need to remove.
