Question
John looking for a linden wall clock 31 day movement by cuckoo clock mfg co.  it has twin striking hammers. it is a wall clock if you might have one please let me know thanks    sandy

Answer
Sandy, thanks for contacting me.  As per the policy of Allexperts, I do not discuss sales of parts or clocks on the Website, as it is for advice and help.  However, I do assist those looking for parts, etc.  If I cannot find a supplier that has the items and I do have the questioner contact me for details.  Just as a note concerning your request, I think the clock you are describing would be rather rare, as the Linden 31-day wall clocks I have run across are manufactured in one of the Asian countries, and the clocks with the Cuckoo Clock Manufacturing Company movements have usually been German 8-day clocks.  But then I learn something new every day.  If you will email me at my email address below, we can do some more research on finding your clock or, if you prefer, something similar to it.

this email address in a timely manner)

Sandy, I received this email from one of my Internet Clocksmith Group members:

"Linden was the successor company to the Cuckoo Clock Manufacturing Company of Germany. Early on they used German, mostly Hermle, movements in their clocks. As time went on they imported the movements, then the whole thing from Asia."

This is something I wasn't aware of.  Again, if you can let me know exactly what you want, email me and I will see what we can find.

Expertise

As much as I would like to offer values of clocks, I am not a certified appraiser and will not venture into giving an unresearched guess. There is very little published information on what I consider to be the value of "modern production clocks". Considerations are what the clock originally sold for, the condition of the case and movement, and particularly the area in which you live, the demand and the economy. ALSO, WATCHES ARE NOT MY FIELD. However, I can advise the clock owner on proper maintenance of a clock to keep it running, small corrections and adjustments and how to move a clock without damaging it. I can also advise on obtaining parts for clocks. It helps if you can send any information on the clock movement which is usually found on the back plate of the movement. I have been a clockmaker for about 35 years and was plant engineer in the mid 90's and later operations and engineering consultant at Emperor Clock Company in Fairhope, Alabama. I now have my own clock shop.

Experience

One of my greatest accomplishments was traveling to China to assist a clock factory in building clocks to the standards which we required. With the proper specifications and quality control, some beautiful clock cases were built. The factory people from the wood carvers to the plant manager were very congenial, friendly and I left a lot of wonderful friends when I returned from my trips.
