Clocks, Watches/Seth Thomas Mantle Clock
Expert: Kenneth Saunders - 2/28/2009
QuestionQUESTION: I was looking on the web for more information about this clock my brother gave to me. I ran across a response from you to a woman trying to get her clock fixed. Turns out it is the same make and model as mine. I went to the site that you recommended, and I was unable to find the replacement movement. My question is two part, where do I get the replacement and how can I tell when it was made or how much it is worth?
ANSWER: what are the markings on the back of the mechanism itself? and what model was that? description? Seth Thomas made clocks for 130 years....

QUESTION: Ok. Cat. 1218, Name: Thames, Model E704-005. It looks like the mechanism was an 8 day keywind, with A206-004 movement. On the tag where it gives the movement type, right under where it gives a little diagram there is another set of numbers. Its an ink stamp and says 7 74.
Its a really beautiful clock. I'd like to see how much it would be to get it working, determine if I can afford it. If not, maybe sell it to someone who can afford to love it!
Answerthe movement was made for Seth thomas in Germany by the Hermle company and their current part # is 130-020 if it winds throught the dial and 130-627 if it winds from the rear. Seth Thomas made the clock in July of 1974.
the 130-020 is easy to get but the other will be a challenge:

Probably worth more to you than anyone else in the world and worth more to you than you could ever expect to recoup by selling it on the open market. Ebay might have one like yours up for auction and you can follow it to find what it sells for. It would probably be worth $20 now and $160 if you put the new movement into it.
