Question
Hello, my name is Michael, I live in Mobile, Alabama. I am interested in watches and wanted to take the watch making/repair couse but I don't want to go out of ths state to do so. I was wondering if you could help.

Answer
Michael,

It is a wonderful field and industry.  There are plenty of opportunities.

I don't know about schools in Alabama, though.  That might be a tough requirement.

If you would be willing to go away for school for one year, Pennsylvania has several schools.

You can also consider starting off by reading and watching videos on the subject.  Although that alone will not get you to an expert level, it will take you far down the path of curiously.

If you know of a locally owned store that does watch repair, you can inquire as to whether they might accept you as an apprentice.  Don't be shocked if they don't.  Many watchmakers are too busy and some are curiously secretive about sharing the trade.  It might be worth the effort though.

Kind regards,

Melvin
