Question
Hi There, I certainly hope you can help me out. I am a clock enthusiast and much to the dismay of my 19 year old daughter who has a tough time with all the ticking and chiming that goes on around the house! However, I have just acquired another wall clock, seems to be 1890-1930? or so it is Westminster chime and the case is about 36" tall (wood) carving at top, horizontal beading front sides, some other light carving also on the front, the face has regular numbering and the front panel glass are three beveled glass horizontal panels. What has me stumped is  that to the right inside of the clock there is a brass circle plate with and upside down tiny hook on it with a hole in the center of the circle, the name on the that circle is schlagwerk still. What does it mean and why is it there? when I googled the name it stated it was a percussion company of some sort,I also thought that it may be associated with the mechanism. I am baffled , can you help with an answer? thanks, John

Answer
I really cannot help you on this.  My immediate thought is that it has something to do with hanging the clock's key.  Truthfully I cannot conjur up in my mind a picture of what you are describing.  Perhaps if you could send some digital pics I could do you some good.  Regards WJP
