Question
QUESTION: I inherited this clock.  Only runs for about 2 days before has to be rewound.  Is this normal, or does it need a pro cleaning?  Thanks

ANSWER: Your clock is Actually A Hermle model 340-020.  Yes I would say your clock is in dire need of cleaning and possibly repair.  In my opinion the original movements provided for these clock were very inferior.  In my shop we never serviced them, the cost to the customer was just to high.  It is far more cost effective to purchase and install and brand new 340-020.  It not only costs less but would also provide you with a much better clock than when it was new, and, at the same time increasing its value.  A word to the wise, do not settle for a rebuilt or new old stock movement.  The result would be a yet inferior clock.  Made with inferior materials.

QUESTION: How do I make sure it is a new superior movement, when the model numbers are the same?  Thanks very much.

Answer
You have to depend upon the person you buy from, but, you must make your wants known.  One dealer of whom I am absolutly sure is Butterworth Clocks Inc.  Mark is the largest dealer of mechanical movements in North America.  You can find him on the internet.  Regards WJP
