Question
I saw your answer to someone about and Illinois pocket watch. I am interested in one my grandfather gave me. It was not working but I just had it repaired and it is beautiful. When i take the back cover off--on the watch itself is the number 1494703 and under that it says "17 jewels". On the other side of the moving parts it says "safety pinion" and below that "Illinois Watch Co." with "Springfield" below. I am just interested in knowing the year and model name etc. and anything else about it.
Thanks for your time

Answer
Aaron,

It was made in 1901 baased on the serial number.  Based on the info provided, I cannot tell the model.

Springfield is where the company was located.

Illinois always made good quality watches.  I am sure yours will be a treasured heirloom for generations.  If you ever get the chance, look at the movement.  It is excellent craftsmanship.

Kind regards,

Melvin
