QUESTION: How do I reset an Elgin Sportsman World time watch after changing the battery? The digital time displays UTC 0000 & 00 seconds but is not running. When I pull the stem out to set the time, calendar, etc the UTC time remains displayed and the buttons for adjusting the watch do nothing. I have removed the battery & put it back in but the result is the same. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

you live in Kazakhstan?  With the name Bob, I am assuming you are not a native of Kazakhstan.  How did you wind up there?

Back to your watch.

Look at the movement and tell me what is the make and model number of the movement.  (Elgin does not make them).  I will be able to give you the instructions with that info.

QUESTION: Thanks for getting back to me Melvin.  The movement is stamped "Japan MIYOTA CO" "No Jewels" "CP00" the stainless steel back of the watch is stamped JAPAN MOV'T  FG010-007  CP00  BATTERY:399.  

As for where I am it's a long story.  Ten years flying C130's for the U.S. Coast Guard out of Elizabeth City NC and Kodiak AK.. then a twenty year career at Delta Air Lines (retired Sep 2005) thirteen days before they filed Chapter 11 Bankruptcy. Oct 01, 2006 I rcvd a ltr from Delta with stated: "Pursuant with the Bankruptcy Court's Decision we've recalculated your Pension Benefit and beginning 01 Oct you will now be receiving ZERO" thanks for your 20 years of service... nice... Went to work for Skybus May 2007..they went out of business 04 Apr 08.  Then to Indigo Airlines in India (I could write a book on this place).  In March of this year I came to work here in Kazakhstan for Air Astana.  So far I am very impressed with the people here and the Company... to bad it's 9000 miles removed from my home and family.  Thanks a lot DELTA.  Sorry to bend your ear...this watch helps me keep in touch with home at a glace, we're 10 hours ahead of the U.S. East Coast here.
