Question
Can I wind an 1860's Seth Thomas mantle clock WITHOUT winding the strike (gong) mechinism?

Hi Tom,
I would not recommend that you wind the time side only, and not the strike side. Being unwound, the strike mechanism would not be held in its proper position. If it happens to come to rest in a mid-strike position it may possibly jam the time mechanism and stop the clock. http://www.clockmasteronline.com
