Question
I have a clock movement stamped on the back-
TREND CLOCKS          The winding spring has broken, is a
P.L. 34 CM            new spring and housing available?
WESTERN GERMANY
8    72
25-1200

Answer
When I see the marking P.L. on these clocks it usually means that the movement was made by Jauch. They are out of business and the barrel is not available anymore. The mainspring can be matched up with a new one by measuring the thickness, width and length of the spring. To do this it must be removed from the barrel. The can be dangerous because the spring is very strong and a lot of power is released when it is removed. The edges of the spring can also cut your fingers if you are not careful.
A clock repair person can replace the spring for you. If you can't find anyone in your area you can mail the barrel to me and I can replace it for you.
If you are able to remove and measure the spring I can help you find a replacement but putting the new spring in the barrel is harder than taking the old one out.
