Question Ken,
I have been building a mantel clock out of parts that I get at auctions. I have the movement above installed in a case and everything seems to be working fine, except I can not get the clock to run slow enough. I have move the only adjustment all the way to its stops, in both directions and the clock is still is running fast. 10 or 15 min/day in the slowest position. There looks like there is a screw on time of the timing wheel that holes the adjustment wheel. Can that adjustment wheel be reset so the adjustment position is in a different place on the timing wheel? Or do you know the right way to handle this problem?
I was able to repair the main spring, but I don't think it will last forever, do you know where I can get a replacement spring and barrel for this movement?
I am also not sure how I will get your answer, can you send me an email at
As to the gaining: Little tricky but..here is photo (below)of the regulating unit on the top rear of your clock movement- hold the rim of #6 while moving any one of the 3 prongs on #5 as far as it will go to the right with a pencil. This will make it go as fast as it can without overhaul. Now to slow it down you move as far to the left as you can. Additional slowing is by adding weight to the rim of the wheel. (short pieces of tapered brass pins stuck in the holes on either side of the circumference- like balancing a tire-- or some such. Trial and error- you could try an different floating balance unit from somewhere (new are pricey)
Sometimes minute adjustments to the escapement fork or the banking pins will change the rate
