QUESTION: I recently inherited this clock and the only markings I can find are on the back of the mechanism itself:
A
H.... not readable cursive logo
Black Forrest clocks
451-050H
94cm/88
This is a three weight clock and keeps good time and is not very old.
Each time I switch from silent to chime it switches fom chiming on odd to even numbers.

ANSWER: 0k a 1988 Hermle mechanism, still being made -
you are mixing your terminology and getting me confused.
the clock does a Westminster chime on the quarters and on the hour after the full 16 notes of the Westminster chime it STRIKES the hour.
I cannot think of anything in 36 years that would be the cause of what you describe- if you are telling it right. Are we talking STRIKE or CHIME. Try again, please, from the top.

QUESTION: Yes the clock chimes and strikes every other hour. When the silent hour arrives I
can hear the clock snap at each quarter hour but does not chime or strike.
Answer well it is an internal gearing problem and unless you are going to remove the mechanism yourself - you need a pro.
it has to do with the quarter chime lift lever not operating properly - but I still cannot think of the exact cause
let me recap: hour 1 it does 4 notes of Westminster chime at 15 minutes after the hour- then 8 notes on the half hour then 12 notes on the 1/4 of the hour and then 16 notes followed by one strike?
then hour 2 it only clicks once at the 15 minutes after the hour and one click at the half, the 1/4 of and the hour? no chimes or strikes at all?
then hour 3 it operates properly as with hour 1 above?? (except 3 strikes on the hour)
