Clocks, Watches - Chimes every other hour

Expert: Kenneth Saunders - 5/9/2009

Question
QUESTION: My grandfather clocks chimes every other hour either odd or even hours.

ANSWER: Cool! most grandfather clocks can't do that!

More info about the clock- how many weights? who made it? markings on the back of the mechanism?

---------- FOLLOW-UP ----------

QUESTION: I recently inherited this clock and the only markings I can  find are on the back of the mechanism itself:
A
H.... not readable cursive logo
Black Forrest clocks
451-050H
94cm/88

This is a three weight clock and keeps good time and is not very old.

Each time I switch from silent to chime it switches fom chiming on odd to even numbers.

Answer
0k a 1988 Hermle mechanism, still being made -

you are mixing your terminology and getting me confused.

the clock does a Westminster chime on the quarters and on the hour after the full 16 notes of the Westminster chime it STRIKES the hour.

I cannot think of anything in 36 years that would be the cause of what you describe- if you are telling it right. Are we talking STRIKE or CHIME. Try again, please, from the top.
